10 Beauty hacks you need to know…

Recently, whilst I’ve been doing my everyday ‘getting ready’ routine, I’ve been thinking about the amount of tricks I use to get the best out of my tools and products so I thought “why not share them with my amazing followers?”. And that is exactly what I’m going to do in this post. I have narrowed down the best hacks, tips and tricks to save you time and money whilst getting ready.

My first hack is for your brows. Now, when it comes to getting our brows done at the salon it can cost a pretty penny and with those annoying little hairs growing back at what seems like the speed of light, it is beyond frustrating. So what I’ve personally found works amazing for me is actually doing my brow routine as normal, then plucking. With this, I get the shape that I want from my eyebrows even when they aren’t filled in and it saves me the time and effort of going to the salon! Perfect!

We’ve all been there; you buy a really great foundation, apply it all over only to then realise you may have bought a shade that’s the tiniest bit too dark for you. Damn it! Don’t fear girlies, I have a trick for this that I’ve used for years! Add a few drops of a white moisturiser to the foundation on the back of your hand and mix! This does only work if the shade isn’t like four shades darker than your actual skin tone but more one or two, at a push, shades too dark for you. Failing this, you can use a cheap foundation in the shade ‘porcelain’, like Primark’s Liquid Foundation, and add small amounts until you get your desired shade.

Now, my next two hacks are perfect if you have a beauty blender. First one is how you can use your little sponge to make your makeup last throughout this summer heat, a night out or even just to ensure your base stays looking fresh all day and this is by spritzing it with setting spray. Dampen your beauty sponge lightly and then cover with the fixing spray before applying your base and this will ensure that desired all day look will stay in place for longer. It will also give you a more dewy look which, I must say, I am LIVING FOR lately.
And then its time to add powder to your base, consequently saying a hesitant goodbye to the dew. This is not the case with my next hack! Using the same damp sponge you applied your base with, swipe this over a pressed powder and apply lightly to your face. Voila! You get to keep your dewy look and keep your base makeup set all day.

Up next is a lifesaver if you’re away from your makeup collection or you have just forgotten to pick up a lip-liner to match your chosen lipstick. Take an flat angled brush and swipe along your lipstick to pick up product then use the brush to outline your lips, finishing off with applying your lipstick as normal! Not the same as a lip liner but it’ll do in an makeup emergency.

You know what I hate? When my lips get dry and chapped sometimes, don’t you? I found this next hack online after Googling about alternatives for lip scrub and wow does it work. It’s a weird one, but trust me on it! Go into your bathroom and grab the toothpaste (told you it was weird), squeeze out a pea-sized amount and apply that to your lips for no longer that 10-15 seconds. When the times up, wipe off with a damp cloth and your lips will feel so soft! Depending on what toothpaste you use, it may even make your lips a little more plump.

Another lip hack is achieving that ever lusted-after fuller lip look without lip injections or plumper and this is all done with the magic of illusion. After you’ve applied your base and are ready to do your powdering, take a small fluffy blending brush dusted with your contour shade and blend this under your bottom lip line to create the shadow that girls with fuller lips are blessed with. Contour works wonders for creating illusion girls.

Moving on from makeup and onto skincare, my next two are absolute genius! This first one is a weird one but after seeing it on Pinterest, I was intrigued and had to give it a try. Now I don’t know a lot of people that actually like drinking sparkling or carbonated water on its own but I’ve found a use for it. Pouring a bottle into a bowl large enough to fit your face in, pour the bottle in and dilute with a glass of water. Proceed to dip your cleansed face into the bowl, now hear me out okay, and hold for 10-15 seconds. Korean beauty gurus made this hack popular and it is supposed to tighten pores, firm the skin, remove dirt buildup and banish dead or dry skin. The bubbles in the drink are said to also provide oxygen to the skin which will get rid of the puffiness too. It’s a weird ol’ hack but it works.

When it comes to the time in the week when we have to wash our brushes, I don’t know a single soul that enjoys cleaning them. Nor do I know anyone who actually wants to spend a lot on brush cleansers; some retail for £15 and ain’t nobody got time for that. What I use on mine is cheap, natural and leaves my brushes immaculate… It’s coconut oil! Spoon some out and pop it in a bowl, stick it in the microwave or on the hob until its completely melted, wait for it to cool slightly and just dip your brushes in the oil. Using an old, but clean, towel or strong kitchen roll, squeeze out the oil. You’ll see all of the buildup in your brushes transfer onto the towel and it’ll shock you. Once you’ve done, take some shampoo (baby shampoo is best because it has a natural PH balance) and rinse the excess oil away. Your brushes look brand new!

My last hack is for your hair but that’s still technically beauty related, right? After you’ve washed your hair as normal and your blow-drying, stop when your hair is almost dry and comb through to leave no knots. Then, what you want to do is use the cool-blast setting until your hair is completely dry. What this does is seal the hair follicles and prevents frizz from ruining your look! I am so prone to frizzy hair when its like a billion degrees outside so this hack has been a life-saver of mine for years!

So that’s it for my beauty hacks! Let me know if you’ll be using any of these or if you have any of your own, in the comments below. Thank’s for reading!
